UVT and Eviden Launch Advanced Cybersecurity Lab to Train Experts

In a collaborative effort to address the increasing demand for skilled cybersecurity professionals, the West University of Timișoara (UVT) in western Romania has partnered with Eviden, a part of the Atos Group, to inaugurate a state-of-the-art cybersecurity lab. This initiative aligns with the university’s master’s degree program in cybersecurity, which was launched just a year earlier. The new facility is designed to offer students an innovative and high-tech learning and testing environment that meets the highest industry standards. The lab aims to prepare top-tier professionals capable of tackling the most pressing issues in today’s digital landscape.

The specialized lab focuses on a wide array of cybersecurity facets, including deepfakes, password security, social engineering, cryptography, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. Additionally, students will delve into cloud security, DevSecOps, and pentesting. This comprehensive approach ensures that graduates are well-rounded and versatile, equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in various aspects of cybersecurity. Diana Sipos, Country Manager for Romania at Eviden, highlighted the growing complexity of cybersecurity threats and stressed the importance of equipping new professionals with cutting-edge tools to stay ahead of these emerging challenges.

Gabriel Pirtea, Rector of UVT, emphasized the university’s commitment to fostering expertise in computer security and data protection. According to Pirtea, the dynamic approach of UVT sets it apart as a leading institution in the region, dedicated to preparing students for the evolving demands of the cybersecurity industry. This collaboration between UVT and Eviden is not only about providing students with theoretical knowledge but also about offering hands-on experience through the advanced resources available in the new lab.

Acknowledging the pressing shortage of cybersecurity professionals, Eviden pointed out that the European Union needed approximately 883,000 specialists as of 2022. This partnership is a significant step towards addressing this gap by ensuring that future Romanian experts receive excellent training and resources. The lab will play a crucial role in meeting the region’s cybersecurity needs, providing students with the skills and expertise required to confront and mitigate emerging threats. As the digital world continues to expand, the importance of having a well-trained cybersecurity workforce cannot be overstated. This initiative reflects a commitment to building a stronger, more secure future in the realm of cybersecurity.

This collaboration between UVT and Eviden marks a pivotal moment in the region’s educational and professional landscape. This partnership aims to build a robust pipeline of skilled cybersecurity professionals, ensuring that Romania and the wider European community are equipped to handle the ever-evolving challenges of the digital age.
